Major Larry Nalven started his career with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office in August 1989.  He has served in several areas during his career including the Patrol Operations Bureau, Special Operations Division, the Investigative Operations Bureau in the Criminal Investigations Division, and the Human Resources Bureau.

His assignments in those areas included patrol deputy, traffic enforcement deputy, Omega Unit deputy, Burglary Unit detective, Tactical Surveillance Unit detective, Crimes Against Children Unit detective, Homicide Unit detective, and Background Investigator.  Upon being promoted to sergeant, he served in Crime Prevention, Community Policing, Burglary, Crimes Against Children, and Robbery/Homicide.

Once promoted to lieutenant, he supervised the Property Crimes Section and then the Crimes Against Persons Section.  He was then promoted to captain and commanded the Criminal Investigations Division which encompasses Property Crimes and Crimes Against Persons.

Major Nalven’s current assignment to the Investigative Operations Bureau has him overseeing the following divisions:

• Criminal Investigations Division
• Narcotics Division
• Child Protection Investigation Division
