What: Detectives assigned to the Robbery/Homicide Unit are conducting a death investigation where a man was found deceased inside the private residence of his St Pete Beach home.
When: Deputies responded to the home of the deceased at about 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 26, 2018.
Where: The deceased was found inside of his private residence, located at 5396 Gulf Boulevard Unit #601, St Pete Beach.
Why/How: Detectives assigned to the Robbery/Homicide Unit are conducting a death investigation where a man was found deceased inside the private residence of his St Pete Beach home.
According to detectives, family members became concerned over the welfare of 63-year-old Stephen Douglas McFarlin after a lapse of time in communication. Family members went to the home of McFarlin located at 5396 Gulf Boulevard, St Pete Beach.
McFarlin was found inside of the home deceased by family members. Family members immediately called deputies who responded to the home. McFarlin was confirmed deceased at the scene by deputies.
Detectives say it appears McFarlin died of a self-inflicted injury and his death does not appear suspicious.
Next of kin has been notified.
McFarlin served as Mayor of St Pete Beach from 2011 to 2014.
The investigation continues.
