What: Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) are investigating two vehicle crash that seriously injured four people in Madeira Beach.
When: The crash occurred at about 2 a.m. on Saturday, September 2, 2017. Where: The crash occurred on the west side of the Tom Stuart Causeway drawbridge in Madeira Beach. How/Why: Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) are investigating two vehicle crash that seriously injured four people in Madeira Beach.
According to investigators, a 2001 Chevrolet Corvette, operated by 21-year-old Jacob Peterson Jr. and occupied by 29-year-old Jorge Arturo in the front passenger seat, was traveling eastbound on the Tom Stuart Causeway Draw Bridge. Peterson lost control of the Chevrolet Corvette and crossed over the raised center median.
Investigators say a 2004 Nissan Altima, operated by 49-year-old Ronda Chambers and occupied by 37-year-old Jason Bean in the front passenger seat, was traveling westbound on the Tom Stuart Causeway Drawbridge when it was struck head on by the Chevrolet Corvette.
Both vehicles sustained substantial damage.
Paramedics responded and transported Chambers by helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center with serious life threatening injuries. Peterson, Arturo and Bean were transported by ambulance to Bayfront Medical Center with serious life threatening injuries.
The Tom Stuart Causeway was closed for several hours while investigators conducted their investigation.
Investigators believe alcohol, speed and inclement weather were contributing factors in the crash.
The investigation continues.
