When: The crash occurred at about 10:08 p.m. on November 6, 2015.
Where: The crash occurred at the intersection of Alternate US Hwy 19 and Causeway Boulevard in Dunedin.
Why/How: According to investigators, a deputy patrolling the Dunedin area observed a 2000 Ford Crown Victoria driving eastbound on Causeway Blvd at a high rate of speed. The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle for speeding and the Crown Victoria fled eastbound on Causeway Blvd. The deputy did not pursue the vehicle; however, the Ford Crown Victoria continued at a high rate of speed eastbound and struck a 2005 Nissan Murano that was traveling southbound on Alternate 19. The Crown Victoria struck a second vehicle, a 2014 Freightliner, Jolly Trolley, at the same intersection and continued southbound on Alternate 19 to Palm Blvd where the vehicle was abandoned. Responding deputies located 24-year-old Sophia Hill, and 21-year-old Kendyll Jacobs, who were nearby. Hill was identified as the registered owner of the Crown Victoria. Hill and Jacobs initially claimed that they had been carjacked prior to the crash. Through various investigative techniques, investigators were able to determine that Hiil and Jacobs were being untruthful and both of them were in fact passengers in the vehicle at the time of the crash. The driver who was known to them had fled the scene on foot. K-9 deputies searched the area for the driver of the Crown Victoria but they were unable to locate the suspect. The driver of the Nissan Murano and two juvenile passengers suffered non-life threatening injuries and were transported to Mease Dunedin Hospital. The driver and the four passengers on the Jolley Trolley were all uninjured. Sophia Hill was treated at Florida Hospital for non-life threatening injuries and was arrested for false report to law enforcement and resisting an officer without violence. Kendyll Jacobs was arrested and charged with accessory after the fact and resisting an officer without violence. Hill and Jacobs were transported to the Pinellas County Jail. Deputies are still searching for the driver of the Ford Crown Victoria. The investigation continues. Booking photograph of Sophia Hill. Booking photograph of Kendyll Jacobs.
