What: Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) have arrested a suspect involved in a fatal hit and run crash in Madeira Beach.
When: The crash occurred at approximately 1:42 a.m. on Friday, May 8, 2015. The suspect was arrested in the morning hours of Saturday, June 27, 2015.
Where: The crash occurred in the area of Gulf Blvd. and 129th Avenue in Madeira Beach. The suspect was arrested at a relative’s home in Hernando County.
Why/How: Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) have arrested a suspect involved in a fatal hit and run crash that occurred in Madeira Beach at approximately 1:42 a.m. on Friday, May 8, 2015.
According to deputies, a female on a skateboard was traveling northbound on Gulf Blvd. when she was struck from behind by a truck. The driver of the truck stopped for a brief moment before continuing to travel northbound on Gulf Blvd.
The victim, identified as 20-year-old Emma M. Keown, was transported to a local hospital where she later died from her injuries.
Through various investigative techniques, deputies developed probable cause for the arrest of the suspect and an arrest warrant was issued.
Deputies arrested the suspect, identified as 22-year-old Sterling Hubbard, at a relative’s home in Hernando County on Saturday, June 27, 2015.
Hubbard has been charged with a 1st degree felony, Leaving The Scene Of An Accident Involving Death and was booked into the Hernando County Jail.
The investigation continues.
