What: Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) are investigating a three-vehicle crash in Treasure Island.
When: The crash occurred at approximately 8:08 p.m. on Monday, May 4, 2015.
Where: The crash occurred in the area of Gulf Blvd. and West Gulf Blvd. in Treasure Island.
Why/How: Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) are investigating a three-vehicle crash that occurred in Treasure Island at approximately 8:089 p.m. on Monday, May 4, 2015.
According to deputies, Treasure Island Police Officer, Daniel Savarese was traveling southbound on Gulf Blvd. in a marked Ford Explorer and began to decrease speed, as he intended to make a right turn onto West Gulf. Blvd. As Officer Savarese slowed to make his turn, the driver of a Ford F-150 sideswiped a Dodge Charger and hit the rear of Officer Savarese’s Ford Explorer.
The impact of the F-150 striking the Explorer caused the Explorer to overturn, coming to a rest on its drivers side, trapping Officer Savarese inside.
Fire rescue responded and removed Officer Savarese by extrication and transported him to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the Ford F-150, identified as 46-year-old Juan DeLeon and his passenger, identified as 59-year-old Margaret Garcia were also transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the Dodge Charger was not injured in the crash.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
The investigation continues.
